In-House Powertrain Calibration
The 2014 model year saw the majority of P1 deliveries completed, with customers worldwide taking delivery of allocations from McLaren's 375-unit production run. The M838TQ 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 and 176 HP electric motor combine for 903 HP and 664 lb-ft, a car that lapped the Nürburgring in under 7 minutes during development testing.
Stage 1 calibration adds up to 90 HP and 100 lb-ft to the combustion engine, pushing total system output to approximately 993 HP and 764 lb-ft. Tuning is limited to Stage 1 only, the hybrid powertrain's integrated torque management and the engine's extreme factory specification don't warrant further calibration escalation.
All calibrations are developed for 91 octane and 93 octane fuel. Custom calibrations are available for 100 octane or other race fuels. ECU map switching preserves the factory calibration for conservation purposes. Antilag enhances turbo response alongside the electric motor's torque-fill function.
