In-House Powertrain Calibration
With the 750S announced as its successor, the 2022 720S occupies a transitional moment. Current owners can take comfort knowing the M840T engine architecture continues into the 750S, McLaren chose to evolve the existing platform rather than replace it, validating the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8's fundamental strength at 710 HP and 568 lb-ft.
Stage 1 calibration adds up to 125 HP and 115 lb-ft, reaching approximately 835 HP and 683 lb-ft.
Stage 2 delivers up to 165 HP and 160 lb-ft over stock, hitting approximately 875 HP and 728 lb-ft. A tuned 720S effectively matches or exceeds the 750S in outright output, making calibration work a compelling alternative to upgrading to the newer model.
All calibrations are developed for 91 octane and 93 octane fuel. Custom calibrations are available for 100 octane or other race fuels. Map switching and antilag are offered as add-on options.
