In-House Powertrain Calibration
McLaren's 650S is powered by the M838T 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8, designed with a flat-plane crankshaft for rapid throttle response and compact twin-scroll turbochargers for minimal lag. In 2016 factory trim, it produces 641 HP and 500 ft-lbs, yet the engine architecture is capable of significantly more when freed from the constraints of the stock ECU calibration.
Our Stage 1 tune for the 2016 650S adds +80 HP and +80 ft-lbs by recalibrating the boost control solenoids, optimizing ignition advance curves for high-octane fuel, and refining the direct injection timing and duration. The result is 721 HP and 580 TQ, a level of performance that makes the 650S feel closer to its 675LT sibling. Turbo spool is noticeably quicker, the mid-range flat spot is eliminated, and throttle response becomes more linear and immediate. Our Stage 2 calibration adds +105 HP and +100 TQ, bringing the total to 746 HP. All calibrations are developed in-house by Mega 3 Performance and are fully reversible via our ECU map switching system.
